Taipei is the capital city of the ROC (Republic of China) known commonly as Taiwan. A few thousand years ago, Taipei as it stands today used to be a lake. Over the course of many hundreds of years the lake dried up and became swampy grassland. It was used by the local Pingpu tribe to fish in the system of local waterways. Since the Han Chinese populated the area, Taipei has grown into a settlement then a city. More and more subdivisions have since been added and today Taipei is the biggest city in Taiwan with a population of 3 million. The main language spoken is Mandarin.

Taipei currently holds the record for the world’s highest building Taipei 101 - the building is 508 m high and contains 101 stories. Taipeis lifestyle is hard and fast. The city has experienced a huge boom in late years and space is limited within the confines of the city itself.
