Taoyuan is the natural home of the Pingbu tribe of Taiwanese Aborigines and an important industrial hub these days. Also home to Taiwan's international airport, Taoyuan means “garden of peaches” due to the many peach blossoms that could be found here in the past. Not far from Taipei, Taoyuan offers some excellent shopping and coffee shops. Popcorn chicken is a local specialty that is found city wide on street corner stalls. Close by, tourists can find the Yuankuang Buddhist Monastery which was founded in 1917. Another great trip close to town is the interesting pottery town of Yingge. It offers an opportunity to browse the works of all the local artists and find a unique souvenir.
